Letter Aa, Chapel, & A Visit from the Dental Hygienist

We had a great week last week learning the letter Aa and the number 4!  Thursday each child brought in their favorite kind of apple.  We talked about the parts of the apple, read a story, tasted the apples, graphed our favorite one, and painted a picture of an apple.

We learned that when you cut an apple in half then it has a star in the center with seeds.  They were so amazed!  :)

Apple Tasting

Our apple graph:  more kids liked yellow apples than red or green :)

This is another graph we did at learning centers.

We also had chapel Thursday.  They are loving all the songs and Bible stories that Mrs. Sara is teaching us.  Chase was our offering helper this past week. :)

Friday we had special visitors from Bartlett Pediatric Dentistry, a dental hygienist, Mrs. Angie and her puppet helper, Clyde.  She talked to the students how to properly take care of their teeth through brushing and eating healthy.  They loved Clyde of course.  She gave them a chant to say to help them remember how to use their toothbrush properly when brushing:  "Up like a rocket, down like the rain, back and forth like a choo choo train".  Mrs. Angie even gave us goodies to take home!  :)

See You at the Pole & A Visit from the Librarian

Today we started off our morning with the whole school gathered around the flagpole to say pledges, sing, and pray.  It was an amazing time!

We had a special visit today from Mrs. Cathy, a librarian.  She comes once a month to visit us.  She is from the Tipton County Public Library located at Dyersburg State Community College.  The students always enjoy the stories that she reads.  She brings a felt or magnetic board and really interacts with them.  She is a wonderful lady!

Busy week....Letter E, Art, Music, & Chapel

Last week we had a very busy week!  We had pictures with Mr. Ramsey, art class, music class, chapel, and learned the letter E and number 3 all in the same week.

We had our first art class with Mrs. Erin on Tuesday.  Mrs. Erin is our TCA Art Teacher.  She introduced the students to a color palette and they got to color one to take home.  She also read a fun story about colors called The Little White Owl.  We will have art class the first Tuesday of each month.

Thursday we had our very first music class with Mrs. Holly Wolfe.  She teaches our PreK classes music twice a month.  We will go the first and third Thursdays of each month.  The students usually look forward to music class because they get to sing and dance.

Our week was packed while learning the letter E and number 3.  We practiced writing our letters, numbers, shapes, and names in shaving cream.  We also made elephant faces and sang and danced around our classroom.  Thursday was chapel day and this past week Cathleen was our offering helper.

Chapel & Grandparent's Day Lunch

We had a busy day Thursday!  We had our very first chapel day with Mrs. Sarah White, FBC's Children's Director.  The kids really enjoyed it!  We learned about the Tower of Babel and sang songs.  Each week the kids have an opportunity to give offering in chapel.  One student is chosen each week to put the offering in the bucket.  This past week, Ady was the one chosen.  The money will be donated to a charity.  At this time the exact charity has not been chosen.  This is a great way to teach our children how to give to others.

We also had a fun time eating lunch with our grandparents that God has blessed us with.  The PTO hosted this event and did an awesome job!  They made it extra-special!  There were centerpieces on the tables and even a photo booth.

Umbrella's Up!

We started our study of the letter Uu yesterday.  We learned that Uu has two sounds...the long vowel sound where it says its name as in the word "unicorn" and the short vowel sound as in the word "umbrella".  We focus on short vowel sounds in preschool.

Today we had a fun day of talking about the letter Uu!  We started off our morning with a story by Dr. Seuss called "Great Day for Up".

Then we sang a fun umbrella song to reinforce the short vowel sound of the letter Uu.  I put my umbrella in the middle as we made a circle around it and we danced around it throwing in short vowel sound picture cards as we sang our song.  The song is to the tune of "The Mulberry Bush"....

"Let's dance around the umbrella,
the umbrella,
the umbrella,
let's dance around the umbrella,
and throw in "Uu" words.
I will throw in the _______,
(whatever their picture card was on their turn- ex. upstairs)
the ______,
the _____,
I will throw in the _____,
in the umbrella."

They had so much fun with this game/song, that we played it twice!  There were some funny Uu words such as underpants and underwear and of course the kids laughed and laughed.  :)

During our craft time today we made our own umbrellas to hang up outside our classroom door.  Since we couldn't take a walk outside with our umbrellas we used the umbrellas we made and had fun in our classroom singing "Rain, Rain, Go Away" and "It's Raining, It's Pouring".  We also learned an "Umbrella Chant"...

"Umbrellas up,
Umbrellas down,
Umbrellas under the stairs,
upside down"

Color & Shape CIRCUS!

What a day!  We had SO MUCH FUN Friday!  We celebrated 2 weeks of studying colors and shapes with a Color and Shape Circus celebration.  The kids looked so cute in their circus costumes!  The day kicked off with a parade around the school.  We marched through the halls waving at all the TCA students while listening to circus music.  The "big" kids really made us feel welcome and waved and smiled as we walked through.  After a little learning time at our tables and snack, we began our game rotations.  All of the PreK 4 teachers had special "circus" activities and crafts planned in their rooms.  We rotated through and every class got to go to each classroom. We made cotton ball popcorn and clown mouths, had our faces painted, played with a parachute, played color and shape ring toss, played roll the color and shape dice to walk the tightrope, and went on a treasure hunt in the sand for shapes!  Whew...it was a packed, fun-filled day!

Getting ready to walk the halls for the parade.

Say "circus"! :)
