A brown, furry friend & messy chocolate pudding...

We had a brown, furry visitor come to our classroom today!  His name is "Thumper" and all of the children were so excited to meet him!  Thanks to Mrs. Kendra next door, we were able to borrow him for our "brown" day.

We talked about the shape of a cross today.  We talked about Jesus dying on the cross for us because He loved us so much! (John 3:16)  He did it so that we could be saved, healed, and delivered.  The children enjoyed finger painting their cross paper with chocolate pudding.

A new jazzy bird friend & the color purple

Today our class was blessed with a new jazzy bird friend!  We were so excited to meet Jake!  Everyone did a great job at making him feel welcome.  Jake had a great first day!

We learned about the color purple today.  I mixed red and blue food coloring together to make the color purple.  Everyone enjoyed watching the water turn purple as I mixed the colors together.

What a week!

We have had another exciting week in our classroom!  We started our study on colors and shapes this week.  The children have enjoyed bringing in their pictures each day to share with the class.  Yesterday was green day and also Jonah's last day with us.  :(  We are so sad that he will not be with us for the rest of the school year.  He wanted to bring cookies that he and his mother baked.  The children really enjoyed the cookies along with their other snack.  Thank you Jonah for sharing your cookies with us!  We will miss you!  :)

Today we talked about the color orange and the shape of a rectangle.  The pictures below are from one of our small group/center rotations.  Each day we have small group/center rotations.  I have one group come to my table first while the other group plays and then we switch.  We love this part of our day!

Rylee, Liam, Cathleen, & Ady working hard on tracing the rectangles and finding and coloring the rectangles.

Chase and Tyler playing in the Home Living Center.

Nicholas, Murphy, and Wyatt playing in the Blocks/Games/Puzzles Center.  They were so excited today that they found orange blocks and rectangle shapes in their center while building.

We also enjoyed putting the letters of our first name in order.  They did so good!  I showed them how to find their first name on their pencil box in order to put the letters in order to make their name.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing your children on Monday!  We will continue our study of shapes and colors.  Please continue to wear the color of the day and send in a picture of something with each day's color and shape.

Monday - purple square
Tuesday - black oval
Wednesday - brown cross
Thursday - white diamond (rhombus)
Friday - pink 1/2 circle (crescent) & gray hexagon

Cut, Cut, Cut & Recess!

Last week was our first week of school and it was fabulous!  Wednesday through Friday of last week, all of our new jazzy friends came to school.  We practiced our scissor skills each day in different ways.  We sang a chant to help remember how to hold our scissors.  I'll share it with you so that when you practice cutting at home, you can sing it with your child!  They love it!

Open and shut.
Open and shut.
That's the way we cut, cut, cut!
Fingers on bottom, thumb on top.
Do not let the paper drop!
Open and shut.

That's the way we cut, cut, cut!

We also enjoyed playing outside on our playground with our new jazzy friends!  It was a beautiful day to play!

We had a "beary" good 1st day of school!

What a fun first 3 days of school!  The boys came to class on Monday and the girls came on Tuesday.  Everyone came today and it was great!  They have done so well learning all of our classroom rules and routines.  They enjoyed showing off their stuffed animal friends on the first 2 days.  They also had a fun time finding their secret message (their first name) on their paper as they learned to use their watercolor paint.  I am enjoying getting to know your child!  They are so sweet and are learning so quickly!  I look forward to our days together!
