A Special Classroom Visitor all the way from Virginia....

Thursday morning we had a special visitor come to our classroom.  Murphy's "Poppy", Mr. Butch, is a retired fireman and lives in Virginia.  The kids really enjoyed listening to Mr. Butch talk about his career.  We learned how to help prevent fires, how important it was not to play with matches and lighters, and was told to help remind our parents not to leave cooking unattended.  Mr. Butch told us that we needed to have a home fire escape plan and practice it.  He also stressed the importance of having smoke detectors in our home and that we needed to change the batteries twice a year when we change our clocks.  We talked about what to do if our clothes catch on fire...."Stop, Drop, Roll, & Cover Your Face!".  Mr. Butch even showed us his fireman badge and made us Junior Fire Marshal's!  Thank you Murphy for bringing your "Poppy" to our classroom.  We enjoyed his visit!
